About Sonder Photo + Film

Sonder is the creative collaboration between prolific photographer Matt P and venerable videographer Tim A.

We use a mix of vintage and more modern lenses on current day cameras on wedding days which allows us to acheive a style that is both vintage and modern in look.

For the camera nerds out there, we use vintage Nikkor AI-S, Konica, Canon and Ziess lenses on modern Sony and Canon mirrorless bodies.

Every wedding is different and we make sure that on your wedding day we are seen as guests. This means we dress smartly. Generally we wear a nice pair of slacks and a nice shirt.

Bookings

You can find all the info about our wedding photography and videography packages on our “Pricing” page

Absolutely you can, but we generally find that the Wedding Photography & Wedding Videography package caters for most wedding days. You can find out more info on our “Pricing” page for add ons and package info.

First things first, let’s have a chat about your big day. we like to get to know you a little before you book so that everyone  is on the same page about wedding photography and videography.

Once you’re keen on having us be a part of your wedding day we just require a  $1500 non-refundable deposit and a signed contract to get you booked into the calendar.

Unfortunately, we can’t temporarily hold wedding dates without a deposit. This policy ensures that every couple has a fair chance to secure their preferred date. If you decide to move forward, we recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure your date is reserved.

Before The Wedding Day

If there is a specific location, position or group of people you want to be included in your wedding content, please let us know this before the day. However, we would prefer to be able to photograph and shoot video  in our own style, as we find this gives the most natural wedding images and video and also allows us to use the location freely, rather than being locked into a certain set of photos and poses. If you need some inspiration for your photos drop by our Instagram page or browse our featured weddings.

Absolutely! We definitely prefer to meet face-to-face before the day. This gives us a chance to get to know each other better and importantly, makes sure that we are the right fit for you as we’ll be spending a lot of time together on your wedding day.

Absolutely! We cover weddings in the Melbourne Metro region for free and charge only for petrol and accomodation outside of this area. If there is an extra travel fee we will cover this prior to booking in for your wedding day.

Our Wedding Photography and Wedding Videography package covers up to 9 hours wedding day coverage. You can of course have us at your wedding for longer and we can discuss pricing before you book in for your wedding day.

On The Wedding Day

Typically we would spend one hour with the bride and around 45 minutes with the groom. Depending on your getting ready locations and their proximity to your ceremony venue, we will decide whether we see the bride or groom first. When meeting up with the bride, we ask that your hair and make-up is done, but that you and your bridesmaids are not yet in your dresses and that the bride is not wearing her engagement ring or important jewellery. This gives us a chance to take some shots of the dresses and the jewellery on their own, before you get dressed privately. We will then follow with some shots of the bride on her own, with her bridesmaids and flower girl and her family. When meeting up with the groom, ideally you and the groomsmen will be showered and dressed in your suit pants and shirts. We will then get shots of you doing your ties, cufflinks, shoes etc and then move on to solo groom photos, group shots and family shots. We like to arrive at the ceremony location 20-30 minutes before the start time so we can suss out the best locations for us to stand and move around to capture the best moments of the ceremony

First of all, don’t stress – it’s pretty normal on a wedding day

We try our best to work with delays in time and still spend the maximum amount of time with both the bride and groom. We can always swap around who we visit first depending on who is running late and may ask that you are completely ready (clothes, jewelry, shoes etc…) so we can get straight into group and family photos when we arrive.

On your wedding day you will have Matt (Photos) and Tim (Video) shooting. You can fnind out more about us on our about us page.

In the unlikely event that either of us are sick on your wedding day we will find an equally talented photographer or videographer to attend in place.

The Wedding Ceremony

Not necessarily unless you are doing something super unique that you would like covered – but even then, we’ve been shooting weddings for years and know where to be and when to get the best wedding photos and video.

Never! We understand that your wedding day is as much for your family and friends as it is for you. While we document the proceedings of your wedding day, we’re out of the way and will never set ourselves up blocking the view of your guests.

The Wedding Portrait Session

EMBRACE IT

No need to worry! If you don’t mind getting the umbrella out we will still be able to capture some stunning photos and video. We can also accommodate changes in location settings for photos of family and groups if not everyone is happy about exposing themselves to Melbourne’s unpredictable weather!

About an hour is ideal for photos between the ceremony and reception. It is important to keep in mind that your guests will be waiting during this time and you don’t want them to wait for too long. If you plan to take your post-ceremony photos quite a distance from where your reception will be held you will want to factor this into the start time of your reception to ensure you do not run late.

You want the best light for your wedding photos and video and late afternoon, after 3.30pm, up until sunset, is the best time for photos. The sun is not too high in the sky or too bright which reduces glare and squinting of people in photos. You might wish to check sunset times prior to organising the time of your ceremony and reception.

The Wedding Reception

We try to capture as much of your wedding reception as we can so that we can complete a full document of your wedding day. The standard wedding photo and video package covers 9 hours and if additional time is needed to capture more events at the reception we change a small fee for our time.

Absolutely we do. You’re guests are a massvie part of your wedding day. We’ll walk around during your wedding reception taking candid video and photos to help document your wedding day

To enhance the look of your wedding photos and video and to assist us when the lighting is a little dark we will set up a few key lights around the wedding reception. These are packed down for most of the reception and are only set up during the key moment like the wedding speeches, first dance, cake cutting etc. They will be set up out of the way and absolutely not in front of any of your guests.

After The Wedding Day

We will deliver your wedding photos and videos on an easy to use online link. This link allows your to share the wedding day content with your friends and family and offers you the ability to order prints.

We aim to deliver a set of “Sneak Peek” wedding photos and video in the week after your wedding day and then deliver the full gallery approx 8-12 weeks after the wedding day.

Generally from a 9 hour wedding day you will receive approx 500-700 hi res, fine art edited photos but often more.

Yes we do. These are quotes on an ad hoc basis as everyone has different print requirments for their wedding photos.

No, printing is an ad on to our wedding packages.

We will keep your wedding photos and videos on file for one year from your wedding date. We recommend that you back the images up to your computers or an external hard drive to ensure they remain safe.
